I have a long association with Holyhead Golf Club from being a junior in 1960 to the present date, and it has been a privilege to serve and represent the members in numerous official and committee roles, especially as Captain in the year 2010.

Therefore, it is a great honour to be elected as President, and I look forward to working collectively with you all to ensure success and progression for the club.

Fel Llywydd 2019-2021 Clwb Golff Caergybi hoffwn gymryd y cyfle hyn i estyn croeso cynnes i bob aelod ac ymwelydd; p'un a ydych yn dod i chwarae gêm o golff, mwynhau ein gwahanol ddigwyddiadau cymdeithasol, neu ddefnyddio ein hamrywiaeth o gyfleusterau.

Mae gennyf gysylltiad hir gyda Clwb Golff Caergybi wedi dechrau yn yr adran iau yn 1960 hyd heddiw, ac bu'n fraint gwasanaethu a chynrychioli'r aelodau mewn nifer o rolau swyddogol a phwyllgorau, yn enwedig fel Capten yn y flwyddyn 2010.

Felly, mae'n anrhydedd mawr cael fy ethol yn Llywydd, ac edrychaf ymlaen at weithio ar y cyd gyda chi gyd i sicrhau llwyddiant a dilyniant i'r clwb".

President Mr John Falloon

Men's Captain

Dear Members,

First, I would like to thank my proposer Mr Mike Earp and my seconder Past Captain Mr Will Williams for nominating me to become Men’s Section Captain of Holyhead Golf Club.

It is indeed an honour and privilege to hold this position and represent the male members as their Captain for 2021.

I was elected on the 26th November at the Men’s AGM which I have to say was achieved by the diligence and hard work by our secretary Mr Mike Earp, through e-mails, due to the reduced number of members allowed to meet.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome Mr Don Robson as our nominated Vice Captain for 2021 and we take the opportunity to wish him well in his duties for the coming year.

As well as the pandemic, our course is suffering, from, the constant heavy rain making it extremely
wet, boggy and treacherous in places. Many thanks are due to the Head Green Keeper Paul and his staff for all their hard work in keeping the course in relative playable condition, also our Head of Greens Mr Keith Thompson who has rolled up his sleeves up and helped out the staff. It is for all of us to respect the course, we as playing members can help to respect the course in replacing divots, repairing pitch marks and using the semi-rough when possible to protect the fairways from footfalls, buggies and trolleys.

In the coming year we will all look forward that we will be hopefully past the pandemic and enjoying regular competitions. Our Match secretary (Mr Ian Fenwick) is busy preparing our competition year plus a return to the Dr Lowe Shield and the Rawlinson Shield amongst other inter club competitions.

We can also look to part of Past Captain (Will’s) legacy in re-introducing the older children from Holyhead School taking part in taster lessons with a view re-creating a Junior Section.
When the Past Captain first approached the Head Master of the Senior School with the idea he was very enthusiastic also some of the teachers deemed it a good idea and to incorporate golf as a sports lesson into their curriculum.

As well as golf in the coming year our social side should start to become active as I know that the ladies are keen to start tapping their feet to some good music.

I would like to take the opportunity to once again congratulate our Ladies Captain Candy Phillips
that her year will be full of fun, happiness and good golf and for all the ladies.

During my year I will look forward to my drive in in February and my Captains day and dinner in July.

May I take the opportunity to wish everybody A Very Happy and Merry Christmas to all members, their families and loved ones, and, A Happy and Prosperous New Year and Good Golf for 2021.

Many Thanks/ diolch yn Fawr

Yours sincerely
Stan Dean.
Men’s Section Captain.

Ladies Captain

I was first taught to play golf at about nine years old by the then Professional at Holyhead, Bert Southcott.
I was there when he played an exhibition match, watched by a large crowd of us, with a young and dashing Peter Alliss and professional golfer Dai Rees, it was something I shall never forget.

I am delighted to be Lady Captain of Holyhead Golf Club for 2021 and look forward to some exciting challenging golf on the course and hopefully some great entertainment in the newly refurbished club house.

I feel thatmy fundraising this year should go mainly to essential maintenance of the club which provides members and visitors with a place for valuable recreation which contributes to peoples mental, emotional and physical health. It is also a great asset to the outstandingly beautiful Isle of Anglesey.

Wishing you all a healthy and prosporous 2021.

Candy Phillips
